Season's Greetings from Querix

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Querix! We would like to thank our customers and business partners for constant support and feedback we were getting during the year. It gave us valuable insights on how to approach some outstanding questions in 4GL legacy facilitation and what could be improved in our tools. We managed re-think the whole process of original 4GL applications migration to modern platforms with Lycia II and will be sharing our findings early next year, so please stay tuned for updates.

It is a web client based on the HTML5 and Ajax technologies which makes your 4GL applications available for a larger number of users, since any system which utilizes a web browser can run your applications via LyciaWeb. The universality of the web client makes it possible to run applications on any portable device that supports a web browser.

Is there a future for Informix 4GL applications?

Eric Vercelletto is an international expert specializing in Informix technologies since 1986. He has been an Informix Software Consultant for more than 11 years, acting as technical support, trainer and strategic accounts technical consultant. He is general manager of Begooden IT Consulting, an IBM partner that provides services on IBM Informix implementation projects such as application and database design, implementation, QA, auditing, technical support and issue management, performance tuning and training. Eric Vercelletto (also known as Mr. Benchmark) talks about 4GL

In the past, 4GL applications could only interoperate directly (without the use of SOAP) with C sources. The latest enhancement to the Lycia 4GL development language is the integration of the Java Language Interoperation. This exciting new interface provides 4GL application vendors with the ability to implement diverse software development projects by inter-operating with Java programs and modules. Java is currently the most used development platform and it is therefore no surprise, that Lycia can now fully utilize Java classes to conform with this standardization. The Java interoperational interface is based on the JNI framework which allows your native 4GL to use Java objects in the same way that Java code uses these objects. A native method can create Java objects and then inspect and use these objects to perform its tasks. 4GL can also inspect and use objects created by the Java application code. This latest addition also comes with huge economic consequences for your software management as you are now able to develop with 4GL, Java and C sources in co-existence to build powerful enterprise business applications.

Lycia II Development Update November 2011 - Lycia XML Interface

This winter, we introduced XML interface for Lycia. This innovation makes data processing simpler and significantly decreases the developer's hand writing job. XML is a mark-up language for manage structured data in documents or data stores. This structured information usually contains both, the actual data headings which describe the meaning and role of the data. The mark-up language identifies the structure of the data store and the new Lycia 4GL extensions aid you in working with them.
